It was back in the gym for day 3 of the 30 day abs challenge after yesterdays well deserved day of rest (though I did do a little cardio). To make the 30 Day Abs Challenge as simple and easy to follow as possible it consists of three, full body workouts designed to get you using large muscle groups for the greatest levels of fat burning and muscle building possible.
My session today focused on my back with the classic deadlift starting me off. This is a very important exercise and one where you should be continually working toward improving your technique.
I know I don’t have the greatest technique as years of running and playing soccer have left me with very short and tight hamstrings a and calf however my flexibility is also something that I am trying to improve by working on my flexibility and being sure to stretch after my workouts instead of just jumping in the shower when I am done (which admittedly is an awful lot easier).
If you find you struggle to keep your back flat when doing exercises such as the squat and the deadlift then you too will need to work on your flexibility with dynamic stretches before your workout and progressive stretching after otherwise your going to run the risk of an injury and nothing is going to put the brakes on your new six pack abs regimen like a pulled muscle.
The video above demonstrates many of the many components that make a good dynamic warm up however it it might also be worth booking in for a sports massage or even regularly attending yoga lessons to get the flexibility needed to really do these moves properly.
